The camera never lies? (3/2008)  »Enhance the shot Quite often in the commercial world you find phototography that has cost a client in excess of $60,000 for a few perfect shots. Obviously, some clients want specifically a shot enhanced and complemented – not replaced with your own elements. In this tutorial I will show you simple steps to enhance such shot and create interest to the viewer, this is where subtly comes in and detail is king! Let’s begin. »How to create a show poster I'll be talking about creating a new look for a 2 person variety act based in California, a project I did. They call themselves The Tweaksters so the art needed to be tweaked. In this case, the client needed a new logo design, and incorporating that logo into an illustration to be printed and sold during and after their show. The new logo needed to be contemporary and the illustration needed to be wacky. I had received photographs and a video of their full show from the client, before I proceeded for the designs. Many thanks to .psd Photoshop magazine for giving me this chance.  »How to make shining and glowing person This tutorial is about a girl I see in my imagination every day. I can’t stop thinking about her, and I can’t forget her. She’s like a ghost, and no matter how hard I try, I can’t reach her. So I call this project “Stop: Haunt Me Every Day.” Since I can’t draw an image freehand, I use a vector program to trace from my photographs. More recent versions of Photoshop include the Warp Transform Tool, which is great for experimenting with moving sections of your image around. It’s another tutorial that shouldn’t be beyond anyone familiar with Photoshop and gives a cool and clean result that's solid in it’s feel. So, put the coffee on and let’s begin. »Deep blue sea This tutorial will teach you how to create an aquatic-themed illustration (or desktop wallpaper if you like), utilizing simple and accessible methods that can then be applied to your current workflow. In the creation of this image, we’ll be using the combination of Adobe Photoshop as well as Adobe Illustrator (for some vector elements). It works best if you previsualize what you hope to achieve artistically by drawing out a rough sketch of your intended design. My original inspiration for this illustration was the video for Bjork’s song Oceania. All the elements needed for you to recreate my illustration are provided. After following the steps detailed in the tutorial you should have your own view of the underwater. »Painting in layers Working digitally is a very free process from an artistic and design perspective. Although I feel that regardless of medium a person must always have a strong traditional foundation, and you must keep in mind everything from color to composition. Photoshop is a powerful tool that can give amazing results at remarkable speeds once you are comfortable working with the software. I generally approach my illustration work in a very ‘sculptural’ fashion by building form out of silhouette. »Bubble tastic This vibrant style can be used for various industries and always evokes a great reaction. It’s a guaranteed winner with a bit of everything within the composition with draws the eye around within the piece. It’s so positive that it will always make you smile, it’s just a happy and fun type of design that’s not too demanding on both you and your system and can be completed happily in an afternoon. I combined them into one panoramic image by using Photoshop (7.0). The story behind this picture: This past summer, I took an afternoon walk with some friends and our dogs. My attention was captured by this beautiful rainbow and spectacular sky. I’ve always got my camera with me but it doesn't have a very wide-angle lens. So knowing what I could do in post-production with Photoshop, I took four pictures (because it wasn’t possible to capture the entire width of the rainbow in a single photo).
